Item description
Vintage original oversized 10.5 x 13.5 in. single-weight glossy photograph taken during THE FUNERAL OF MOTION PICTURE DIRECTOR CECIL B. DeMILLE on January 23, 1959. This photograph, which was taken by Ralph Crane for Life magazine, depicts the front exterior of St. Stephen's Church in Hollywood, California and depicts an altar boy carrying a large crucifix as he is followed by a priest and then the pallbearers carrying DeMille's oak casket. The pallbearers include: unidentified mortuary employee (front enter); along the left are studio head and producer Samuel Goldwyn, Paramount studio head Adolph Zukor, Neil S. McCarthy, and Henry Noerdlinger; along the right side are: actor Henry Wilcoxon, Y. Frank Freeman, Russell Treacy, and Donald Hayne. Various members of the press are taking photographs and 16mm motion pictures of this historic Hollywood event.
The verso features several rubber stamps including a date stamp of JAN 23, 1959 and a LIFE PHOTO by Ralph Crane." Measuring 10.5 x 13.5 inches and printed on a single-weight glossy stock, this vintage original Life magazine photograph was printed without any outer white borders. It is in very good+ condition with two creases on the top left corner; light signs of wear on the top and bottom right corners; a few creases on the bottom left corner; and a light 4 in.horizontal crease starting at the left border and running just beneath the bottom of the jacket of the man in full viewing holding a camera to take a photograph.
