Item description
Vintage original 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the 1950's Broadway-themed comedy/romance, BUT NOT FOR ME, released in 1959 by Paramount Pictures and directed by Walter Lang. Based upon the play by Samson Raphaelson, without a new play and money, a 55 year-old. Broadway theater producer (Clark Gable) retires. But when fired, his 22 year-old secretary (Carroll Baker) says, she loves him. He decides to make that a scene in a new play and for her to write it and play the role. The cast includes Lilli Palmer, Lee J. Cobb, Barry Coe, Thomas Gomez, Charles Lane, and Wendell Holmes.
The image features an exterior medium shot of Jeremiah MacDonald (Lee J. Cobb) and Broadway producer Russell "Russ" Ward (Clark Gable) wearing robes as they sit poolside while discussing their careers. It is in fine+ condition with two sets of staple holes in the top left corner of the image area, one in the top right corner in the borders, and two sets in the bottom border. There are no tears, stains, writing, or other flaws.
In the film, although Clark Gable tells Carroll Baker that he is 44, he was in fact 57 at the time of filming. During filming, Gable held a press conference in which he announced that he had realized he had become too old to play romantic leading roles and would be looking for different parts from then on. Ironically, his next film was It Started in Naples (1960), a romantic comedy opposite the much younger Sophia Loren.
