Item description
Vintage original 27x41 in. US one-sheet poster from the popular 1962 British Film Noir thriller, MURDER CAN BE DEADLY (UK title: The Painted Smile), released in the US in 1963 by Colorama Features and directed by Lance Comfort. Callgirl Jo Lake (Liz Fraser) is working in clubland rackets
with her man, who is killed by gangland boss (Kenneth Griffin), and clubber Tom
(Tony Wickert) is caught-up in the murder.
This poster was printed for the film's original US theatrical release in 1963 by Colorama Features and depicts seven different scenes from the film. Unrestored and folded as originally issued, it is in very fine condition with a Canadian censor stamp and some separation on the bottom of the vertical fold line. There are no pinholes, stains, or other flaws.
The role of nightclub singer, played
by Craig Douglas, was originally offered to The Beatles, but they were
rejected by the producer, who thought they were too young. Peter
Reynolds and Craig Douglas both have "guest star"
credits. The film was released in the UK in May 1962 as
supporting film to A Majority of One
on the ABC circuit.
