An actors' field day, as flamboyant Moreau comes to stay with her girlhood friend Julie Walters (now a frumpy housewife in 1950s Croydon) when her strangely standoffish daughter is about to be married--to the twit next door. Plowright is wonderful as the idiot-groom's aged mother; her scenes with Moreau are a real treat.
