Item description

Brand new factory sealed fullscreen Black White version is the same on all formats, so not a lot to gain on disc versions. Does look great especially on old school tube televisions as the picture will fill your square frame. This special edition is no longer available in any format and also includes the original theatrical trailer as an added bonus. Long before there was 'Throw Momma from the Train', there was this Alfred Hitchcock super-thriller about two passengers who accidently meet. After some club car chit-chat in which both men discuss some personal problems, Bruno (Robert Walker) proposes, in theory, of course, that they each murder the person vexing the other person's life--Bruno would murder Guy's (Farley Granger) wife in exchange for Guy murdering Bruno's father. Guy is appalled at the idea, but is even more appalled when Bruno carries out his half of the deal and then expects Guy to do the same. This longer British version, more than the original, provides a startling franker dialogue amplification of Bruno's flamboyance, his homoerotic attraction to Guy and his psychotic personality, and a different ending. The laying bare of Bruno's hidden nature, along with the great set pieces (head-turning tennis match, disintegrating carousel) and suspense as only Hitchcock can deliver, makes for a tremendous first-class trip. Robert Walker died the same year of the film's release of an accidental overdose. Detective novelist Raymond Chandler wrote the screenplay and Hitchcock appears in the film as a passenger boarding with a bass.
