Item description
This is a vintage 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy copy photograph (not a vintage original photo printed at the time it was taken) from the classic silent film western drama, THE SQUARE DEAL MAN, released in 1917 by the Triangle Film Corporation and directed by William S. Hart. A gambler (William S. Hart) decides to play one last game before he turns over a new leaf. However, during the game one of the players accuses him of cheating. Suddenly the lights go out, shots are fired and when the lights come back on, one of the players is dead. The gambler is accused of the killing. He didn't do it, but has to find out who did, and why he was framed for it.
The image features an exterior nighttime medium shot of Jack O'Diamond (William S. Hart) kneeling next to a stucco wall with his rifle lying against it at-the-ready as his face is dramatically lit. Printed most likely in the 1950's, this vintage copy photograph is in very fine condition with a 0.25 in. diagonal crease on the top right corner in the borders only. A prior owner wrote the incorrect film's title (O'Malley of the Mounted") on the verso is blue Sharpie but it does not bleed through.
Provenance: From the Collection of Cecil J. Miller (per a rubber stamp on the verso).
