Item description
Vintage original 27x41 in. US one-sheet poster from the great 1980's version of the classic WWII-themed war comedy, TO BE OR NOT TO BE, released in 1983 by 20th Century-Fox and directed by Mel Brooks. At the onset of WW2, a Polish actor's family and the Polish Resistance help the troupe of a theatre escape Poland and the invading Nazis. The cast includes Mel Brooks, Anne Bancroft, Tim Matheson, Charles During, Jose Ferrer, George Gaynes, Christopher Lloyd, George Wyner, Lewis J. Stadler, and Jack Riley.
The image, like that of other posters from Brooks' earlier films, features beautiful artwork designed by Drew Struzan, one of the most popular movie poster artists, as opposed to photographic images. The design depicts a close portrait shot of Polish Dr. Frederick Bronski (Mel Brooks) and his wife, Anna (Anne Bancroft), portrayed in a gold frame as they both look upwards with hope while the night sky around them is filled with German planes as shells burst in the sky around them. Unrestored and folded as originally issued, this vintage original one-sheet is in very fine+ condition without any pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws. When it was machine-folded, the center vertical fold was slightly off-center, which does not affect the image quality in any way.
