Vintage 1970’s BWC Buttes Watch Co. Hand and 30 similar items

Nice BWC hand winder from circa 1975. Case measures 35mmwithout crown. Sturdy FHF 96-4 Fabrique d?Horlogerie de Fontainemelon hand winder. With its diameter of 11 1/2 lignes, the FHF 96-4 belongs to the so-called ?standard? movements, which were produced by different manufacturies within the Ebauches SA. It bases on the caliber FHF 96 (Standard) and extends it with a date indication. The Standard 96-4N watch movement, also known as 969-4N, is produced by FHF and ST, which are signature brands. The specific differences between the 96-4N and 969-4N are unknown. The movement features manual winding, a sweep second hand, and a date function that can be set by adjusting the time between 20:30 and 24 hours. It was commonly used around 1975. Seems to be NOS or unworn with minor shelf wear. Fully functional. Comes on that new navy blue leather strap. Some photos still show a light blue strap. I thought the dark blue looks better. BWC is a largely forgotten company that flourished during the classic era of watchmaking before the Quartz Crisis, but it is one that can still offer vintage fans a great deal of fun. Lacking widespread brand-name recognition also means that they often are available for pretty decent prices while offering Swiss quality and the quirky design charm that it seems only vintage watches can get away with. The Buttes Watch Company (BWC) was found in 1924 by Mr. Arthur Charlet, in his birthplace, Buttes (Canton Neuchatel). The ?Val de Travers?, an aesthetic high-lying valley in Switzerland nearby the French border, is well known for watchmakers in the 18th Century.
