Item description
CIRCA 1870-1890, CARTRIDGE BOX PLATE, NEW YORK NATIONAL GUARD, FOR FRAZIER M1872 CARTRIDGE BOX
Die struck rolled brass face with two brass wire loops soldered onto the back. Measures 38 x 56 mm. This has not been cleaned and displays nice patina.
Small size script "NG" box plate for the M1872 Frazier's patented cartridge box. This one is in very fine shape without any issues. The loops are soldered on the reverse with retention pin.
The celebrated 7th Regiment (the National Guard) wore an outlined version of this NG monogram on their cartridge box flaps between 1835-1862. Afterwords, the entire state force was renamed to NATIONAL GUARD and prescribed these small oval plates with script capital letters. These plates were usually affixed to Frazier M1872 Cartridge Boxes.
