Green Dragon bulbs. The green dragon is a member of the jack in the pulpit genus. It only has 1 leaf, appear on a single stem that forks, giving the impression of 2 separate leaves, each comprised of up to 15 leaflets. The flower is a greenish cylinder, with an upward pointing tongue. The leaf will die back by mid summer leaving a 3 foot tall bare stem, topped by a cluster of bright red showy berries. Live in part sun part shade to full shade with medium water use in moist acidic soils. Bloom time April-June, attract birds, deer resistant, pond margin colonizing plant.
