Item description
Here is a beautiful Davidson cloud glass flower frog from England. I am not certain when it was made, but some sellers say they are from the 1930s. The cloud effect looks fantastic in light!
There are 19 holes, arranged around the center. There is a hole in the middle, with a row of 6 holes around it, and then 12 holes in a row around the edge.
The bottom is embossed, "Patent7830/1910" around the center, and then
"Made in England" between the next two rows; and "4 1/2" is embossed 3 times evenly around the
edge. There are 6 small glass bumps that serve as feet. There is a lot
of wear on the bottom of the feet, and one of the feet is chipped, about
half off, on an angle. The holes in the bottom look like they must have
been made with thin glass over them, which was knocked out at the
factory. They all are rough, but most are not damaged. There is a crack
going between one of the outer holes near the edge to the adjacent hole
in the next row. And then it looks like a completely internal crack
going from that hole to the adjacent hole in the same row. There also
are two tiny bruises between holes in the outer row; and one hole has an
intact chip on its edge.
This flower frog has had a lot of use over the past 90 years, and there are several chips. On the top, the center hole has a 3/16" flake chip, and a minuscule nick in it. One of the holes next to it has an intact flake chip 3/16" long and a mini chip on top of that chip, that's 1/16" long. The next hole adjacent to the center and previous hole has a 3/16" smash chip, which is also 1/16" thick, and it appears that there is a long intact chip/or internal crack that goes down about 1 inch from the top. The next damage is 2 holes away, and also adjacent to the center hole. It has multiple tiny chips in the inner edge for about 1/3 of the hole/about 1 inch long. In the outer circle of holes and adjacent to the previous hole, there is a smash chip 1/8" long and multiple mini chips next to it for about 3/4 inch, and another chip that's about 3/16" long. On the back side of that last chip, in the next hole, is an intact chip, which may be part of the chip in the previous hole. The next hole has a mostly intact chip 1/8" long. Three holes away there is a rough area about 1/8" long of multiple mini chips at the top and a smash chip at the bottom that is 1/4" long, plus another area 1/4" long and one more tiny chip near it. There is also a tiny bruise (less than 1/16" long) on the divider between this hole and the one following it. The remainder of the holes are relatively unscathed.
On the narrow ledge that circles the middle of the side of the flower frog there are: 2 tiny chips plus a minuscule nick in a 1/2" distance, Then about 1/3 of the way around there are 2 minuscule nicks an inch apart. Then about 1/3 of the way around from the first of those is a 1/4" section of several tiny chips; about 2 inches from there is a tiny chip a hair over 1/16" long, then a group of tiny chips that's 1/8" long. There are also a couple of extremely tiny nicks in the smooth area below the ledge, and a couple of tiny air bubbles in the glass. This sums up all the damage I can find, and none of it affects the usefulness of this flower frog.
