Item description
Here is a very pretty pink opalescent vase made by Duncan Miller Glass Company in the 1940s. The pattern is Canterbury, which was their line number 115. Some patents for the Canterbury pattern were granted in 1940; and the pattern was shown in crystal in a 1940s catalog. This pattern was made from 1940 until Duncan Miller ceased manufacturing in 1955. In the catalog this size and shape of vase was called a violet vase. It would hold a nice violet bouquet!
The vase is clear pink at the bottom, with light opalescence beginning in the body of the vase and full opalescence taking over in the top 1/3 of the vase. The top rim is crimped (ruffled), and is a luscious creamy light pink color. The vase is 4 inches tall at the taller edges of the crimps, and 4 1/2 inches wide at the top. It is 2 inches wide across the bottom. The bottom is cut smooth and polished, as is typical of Duncan and Miller wares. The vase weighs 9.9 ounces on my scale.
This violet vase is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. There is minimal wear (almost none) on the polished bottom of this 80-year old elegant glass vase!
