Folio, two volumes; original binding with gold tooling on cover and spine; rubbing on spine and corners; 3 sides gilt. 121 steel engraved plates with accompanying descriptive text, each 14 1/2 inches tall by 12 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches thick. Marginal spotting on some plates. Otherwise, in very good condition. This gallery of prints presents a compilation of prominent British painters of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The two volume set contains a wealth of beautiful and diverse plates with descriptions of each image and featuring reproductions of the work of such artist as David Roberts, William Hogarth and Sir Joshua Reynolds. The plates provide an excellent glimpse of various British artists who depict a multitude of themes and span over many periods of British art. Aside from wear on the spines and corners, the two volume set is in very good condition.
