Item description
Antique Staffordshire Canton Pattern China Lavender Light Purple and Multi-Color Pattern on White Background
Dates ca. first half of 19th century
Purchased in a china service at an estate sale with a 19th century English pottery and china collection, some pieces in the service have a printed "CANTON" mark in a cartouche on the base, some are unmarked. We haven't been able to identify the specific potter, this was a common pattern of the time in the Staffordshire region produced by numerous manufacturers. It was meant to replicate Chinese exports ware shipping out of the port of Canton, China, and was a predecessor to the English Willow patterns.
Measures about 6-1/2"
Pre-owned, no cracks or chips, may be some wear to the colored trim, some darkening inside pieces, or some other small signs of age
