Item description
? You are purchasing one dormant Red Lake Currant Plant, 6-8 inches tall, shipped in a 1-liter container. Plants are sent with the root ball wrapped in wet wood shavings and plastic to ensure freshness during transit. During dormancy (October to March), plants are sent without soil. Each plant will be securely packed in a box.
• Hardiness: USDA Zones 3-7.
• Pollination: Self-pollinating.
• Type: Rooted from cuttings/division, with the largest available plant selected for send out.
? Exceptional Cold Hardiness and Yield: The Red Lake Currant is among the hardiest plum-red currants available, producing fruit as early as the second year on two-year-old wood. This compact, deciduous shrub grows 4-6 ft. tall and yields up to 3-4 quarts of fruit when mature. Its 8-10 inch long clusters of dark red berries are easy to pick and perfect for home gardeners.
? Fruit Characteristics and Uses: Large, juicy red berries ripen from late spring through summer. Their intense, slightly tart flavor is ideal for making preserves, jellies, and desserts. While tart, they can also be eaten fresh. The bright red fruits and aromatic leaves make the Red Lake Currant a lovely addition to any garden, whether as a productive hedge or a standalone shrub.
? Growing Tips:
• Thrives in rich, well-drained soil.
• Resilient to White Pine Blister Rust.
• Fruits are high in vitamin C and attract birds.
• Ripening: Berries are typically ready in July.
? Important Notes:
Currants and gooseberries can host white pine blister rust. Therefore, it may be illegal to send to certain states, including DE, MA, ME, MI, MT, NH, OH, RI, VA, WV, and all of NC. Please check with your local agriculture department before purchasing. Buyers are responsible for compliance with state regulations; we cannot refund or replace plants confiscated by local authorities.
