Item description
This listing features a great example of a Mexican Bowie being sold to tourists who visited the area around the mid 1950's to early 1960's. It's definitely substantial weighing in at a tidy 8 ounces straight. It has a great feel to it and a good balance and when you hold this baby, you really feel like you're holding one of the big boys. On one side it has etched in a floral pattern and a wolf stalking. On the other side is etched in Spanish "Made in Mexico" on the left and on the right it reads, "Hay hombre que de vivos sobran y de muertos estorban" with somewhat of a pattern around the words. Translation: "There are men who are left over from the living and from the dead they hinder."
Condition - The blade has some pithing and discoloration. Usually that's because in those days they were experimenting with metals instead of using just straight stainless or Carbon Steel. They probably did this to keep the manufacturing prices down. The leather wrapping on the handle is excellent. The guard is too. The hilt is in very good condition with a few scratches and dings. Overall, we love this old survivor from a bygone era.
