Item description
Vintage original 11 x 14 in. US lobby card from the 1940s adventure drama/romance, THEY DARE NOT LOVE, released in 1941 by Columbia Pictures and directed by James Whale. An Austrian prince flees his homeland when the Nazis take over and settles in London. While in London, he meets a beautiful Austrian émigré who makes him realize his mistake in leaving Austria. He makes a deal with the Nazis to return in exchange for some Austrian prisoners, but discovers that the Nazis are not to be trusted.
The image depicts a close interior shot inside of an automobile as Prince Kurt von Rotenberg (George Brent) looks upset while talking with Marta Keller (Martha Scott). It is unrestored in fine condition.
Provenance: The Cozy Theatre Collection.
They Dare Not Love was director James Whale's final completed feature, shot January 6-February 22 1941. His final film was Hello Out There (1949), which was never released. They Dare Not Love was also the last of 7 features that actor Peter Cushing completed in Hollywood at the very beginning of his screen career, returning to England by 1942, where he would meet and marry the love of his life, Violet Helene Beck, in 1943.
