Item description
Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card from the classic 1940's Spanish Civil War-themed historic drama, FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS, released in 1943 by Paramount Pictures and directed by Sam Wood. Based upon the famous novel by Ernest Hemingway, during the Spanish Civil War, an American (Gary Cooper) allied with the Republicans finds romance during a desperate mission to blow-up a strategically important bridge. The cast includes Ingrid Bergman, Adkim Tamiroff, Katina Paxinou, Arturo de Cรณrdova, and Vladimir Sokoloff.
As indicated in the lower right corner, this lobby card was printed for the film's 1957 US theatrical re-release by Paramount Pictures. It is lobby card #2 (as indicated in the center of the bottom border) and depicts a close shot of American Robert Jordan (Gary Cooper) talking with Pilar (Katina Paxinou) and Agustรญn (Arturo de Cรณrdova). It is unrestored in fine+ condition with some small light creases near the top left corner; a very small area of paper loss on the center of the top border back on the back side; and some small creases simply from handling over time. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, writing, or other flaws and the color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.
Cast member Katina Paxinou won an Academy Award for "Best Actress in a Supporting Role" for her performance in this film.
