Exceedingly rare first edition of this work by abolitionist and founder of the Protestant Reformation Society. He took issue with the Catholic church throughout his long career as a Protestant minister and activist. This novel, as were most contemporary stories about women in Roman Catholic convents, were manifestations of the virulent anti-Catholicism of the 1830's - 1850's in America.
Bound in brown boards with gilt stamped spine title. Frontis illustration of "Louise". 8" x 4.5". 244 pages.
Extremely rare - could not find another 1st edition listed online!
