Item description
XIXe Siecle. Les Grands Auteurs Francais Du
Programme. Anthologie et Histoire Litteraire. 3rd Edition (1986 HC
w/o DJ)
Author:
André LaGarde (1912-2001)
Author:
Laurent Michard (1915-1984)
Publisher:
Bordas Paris, France 1986
19th century French literature presented in the original
French has 578 pages of text and indexes, plus 64 pages of
illustrations in 18 thematic groupings sprinkled throughout the book.
Text is in French.
André LaGarde (1912-2001) was a professor and historian
of French literature. While he served as a professor at the Lycée
Louis-Le-Grand, he partnered with Laurent Michard (1915-1984), a
professor at the Lycée Henri-IV, to co-author the famous textbooks
series known as "Collection Litteraire Lagarde et Michard".
These textbooks presented works and comments by French writers in
their temporal succession which served as the major basis for
teaching French literature in French high schools into the 21st
century. A rich illustration selection, sometimes in color, both
pictorial and photographic (an innovation highly appreciated at the
time) accompanies the texts. Text is in French.
Hardcover has laminated boards with full color
illustration (detail from "Classiques et Romantiques" by
Debia, 1835), but no dust jacket. Covers show minor scratches
stains. Book has been studied, with notes and underlining
throughout. Notes are a blend of English and French. No ownership
cited. Most likely a privately owned college text studied by the
student, almost good. Text is in French
Size: 8vo - over 7 - 9"
tall, 642pp.
Condition:
Near Good Hardcover w/o DJ - Privately owned. Studied with
underlining.
Copyright 1985,
renews 1957, 1953. Printed in France. Print-line : C86/18314 S. No
LCCN or MSR. ISBN-10: 2-04-016216-X. Text is in French.
Notes on
Condition/Edition ratings:
Fine – means like new, but any
book produced over 10 years ago isn't “brand new” or even “new.”
Booksellers needed some word to describe this...
Like New – A new book, no
marks no damage (except maybe remainder marks or shelf-wear) except
not obtained directly from the publisher or in packaging from the
publisher.
Very Good – How you or I might
take care of a book, closer to “as new” than standard. Might show
ownership.
Good – How someone else might
take care of a book. Also referred to as “standard.” This is the
most likely condition for books of this age title, shows the
book has been read or previously owned.
Acceptable – How a child,
student or a librarian might take care of a book. (Either trying to
make sure
someone doesn't steal it by
plastering ownership everywhere, filled it with copious notes or a
book that has been damaged.)
Poor – Combination of
“acceptable” factors above. Most likely with water damage as
well. Might have
missing pages (you should ask).
Near – Means “almost” in
an optimistic sense. e.g., “Near Fine” means very good, but on
the high end.
1st
Thus
– Unique somehow, maybe 1st
paperback,
new illustrator, misprint or even the 1st
edition.
A collector
might desire this copy.
