Item description

This is for an incredible WW2 "Victory Ring" for the unstoppable U.S. Army Third Infantry Division. This ring was gently worn as the detail is still sharp and clear. It is an honor just to hold it. As the years have passed, 3rd ID victory rings are rarer than ever. This is easily the last one you will ever see for sale especially in this condition. These photos were done under bright direct light. The gold is actually a warmer color and the dark areas around the details are darker. Markings: 10k, Third Infantry Division, Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, France, Germany, Rock of the Marne symbol WIKI: The Third Infantry Division is the only division of the U.S. Army during World War II that fought the Axis powers on all European fronts. Perkins General 3d Division Iraq General officer Robert B. Abrams General 3d Division Iraq Son of General Creighton Abrams At it's beginnings the 3rd Division earned a lasting distinction when at midnight on 14 July 1918 it engaged in the Aisne-Marne Offensive. As a member of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) to Europe, the division was protecting the French capital of Paris with a position on the banks of the Marne River. The 8th Machine Gun Battalion of the 3rd Division rushed to Chateau-Thierry amid retreating French troops and held the Germans back at the Marne River. While surrounding units retreated the 3rd Division remained steadfast throughout the Second Battle of the Marne, and Colonel Ulysses G. McAlexander's dogged defense earned the 38th Infantry Regiment its nickname as the "Rock of the Marne." Their Blue and White insignia also earned them the nickname the Blue and White Devils. General Pershing, Commander-in-chief of the AEF on the Western Front, called this stand "one of the most brilliant in military history." In World War II the 3rd Infantry Division landed with General Patton's task force in a contested amphibious landing on the coast of Morocco, North Africa, overwhelming Vichy French defenders in November 1942. In 1943, the Division invaded Sicily in July, and invaded Italy at Salerno in September, before fighting in France and finally Germany. Medal of Honor recipient Audie Murphy, featured in the Hollywood movie, "To Hell and Back," is one the Division's most prominent members.
