THIS OPEN-AIR PRODUCTION OF JULES MASSENET'S FRENCH OPERA "WERTHER" IS A VISUAL EXTRAVAGANZA. Released 1988 by European Video Distributors of Burbank, California. Presented in original French language and starring Peter Dvorsky, Brigitte Fassbaender, Magdalena Vasary, Frantisek Zvarik, and Hans Helm. Directed by Peter Weigl. Conducted by Libor Dvorsky. VHS Video. NTSC format for play in the U.S. and Canada. "Werther" premiered in a German version at the Vienna Opera in 1892. It is the story of a young poet who falls in love with Charlotte, the eldest daughter of the town Magistrate. Despite their shared love, Charlotte remains true to her dying mother's wish and marries another man. Condition: Video cassette is in excellent condition. European Video Distributors released its foreign videos in a simple clear plastic hardshell case with a one-page descriptive insert. The insert has been cut into pieces by the former owner to create spine and front cover identification. This video is from a personal collection, and is NOT a former rental.
