Item description
Vintage original 27x41 in. US one-sheet poster from the popular 1970's comedy, W.W. AND THE DIXIE DANCEKINGS, released in 1975 by 20th Century-Fox and directed by John Alvidsen. Set in 1957, W.W. Bright (Burt Reynolds) is a robber with a heart of gold who travels the South knocking-off banks and gas stations owned by a corrupt businessman. When he hijacks a car, he meets an aspiring country band, the Dixie Dancekings, led by Dixie (Conny Van Dyke). The two sides eventually take a liking to one another, especially after the Dancekings realize the size of Bright's thefts. Trailed by religious zealot cop Deacon Gore (Art Carney), Bright helps the band make it big while on the run. The cast includes the great Ned Beatty.
This "Style A" one-sheet features artwork by R. Hicks (his signature appears beneath the door of the 1950's automobile) and depicts the film's major characters in various western attire, along with a 1955 Oldsmobile Special Edition Holiday 88 Coupe. Unrestored and folded as originally issued, this vintage original "Style A" one-sheet is in very fine- condition with light wear along some areas of the foldlines. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws and the rich color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.
The film market the acting debut of Jerry Reed. One of the young actors who unsuccessfully auditioned for this film was Sylvester Stallone. A year later, Stallone worked with director John G. Avildsen on Rocky (1976). The female lead of "Dixie" was originally offered to Lynn Anderson and then to Dolly Parton, both of whom turned it down. A lot of the movie was filmed in Davidson County (Nashville) and surrounding counties in Tennessee.
