This is something that my Grandfather brought home from the war, it is a genuine SS belt buckle and has makers marks on the back R000 or R00Q can't really tell which for sure. It has German phrase circling the outer part with the letters "Meine Ehre heiBt Treue" meaning "My honour is called loyalty" and is the motto of the Nazi Party organization Schutzstaffel SS Party. It is very old as you know and has some darkening and some small rusty looking places but could probably be cleaned and buffed back to a shine if someone wanted to do so with a wire brush or some silver cleaner. I have only washed it with soap and water. Also from my research, it says that it is made of steel. I will leave the cleaning decision to the new owner. The buckle has an eagle with spread wings at the top and the Swastika underneath the eagle withing a wreath of leaves around it, with a rope surrounding that and the middle circle is raised. There is the German phrase surrounding this with a rope around the outside of that. On the back side is the makers number and a moving bar with 2 teeth that move back and forth and works well and freely. It has a bar on the other side that holds the leather belt attachment. It is fairly heavy since it is made of metal and measures 2-3/4" wide by 2" tall and 3/4" thick. It is an authentic piece. If you have any questions just message me and I'll be happy to help you.
