Capture a powerful piece of Native American history with this authentic vintage feather headdress, handmade in the Plains Indian style by the renowned Cahuilla elder and cultural preservationist, Katherine Siva Saubel of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.
Purchased directly from the artisan in 1986, this rare piece has been owned by the original owner (pictured) for nearly four decades.
Katherine Siva Saubel (1920?2011) was a respected tribal elder, linguist, author, and co-founder of the Malki Museum, the first Native-run Museum on a U.S. reservation. She dedicated her life to the preservation of Cahuilla language and culture. Her work is exhibited in museums, academic texts, and oral history projects, making this handmade headdress an extraordinary cultural artifact.
Features: Handmade ceremonial-style feather war bonnet, Plains Indian tradition, featuring white, red, and brown feather, Beaded rosette medallions on each side, Leather and fur-wrapped braids with decorative ends.
