Vintage Metales Casados Mexico Sterling Silver Inlay Brooch Pendant Pin Aztec Mayan Warrior Taxco Mexican Artisan Ethnic Tribal Motif Inlaid Malachite Lapis Turquoise Signed Eagle 3 Married Mixed Metals Gemstones South America Character Figure Hallmarked Designer Signed CHAIN IN PHOTOS IS NOT INCLUDED! This is a lovely vintage Mexican brooch/pendant made with mixed metals. It features an Aztec or Mayan warrior figure. This style of metal work is known as Metales Casados (married metals) and uses at least two different metals in the creation of the jewelry. This piece has sterling silver, brass and copper with crushed deep blue and turquoise mosaic gemstone inlay, I'm not sure what the gemstones are, could be Lapis, Malachite or Turquoise. It measures approximately 1 of an inch long and 1 of an inch tall. It has a good working rollover clasp as well as a bale so it can be worn with a chain necklace. The back is stamped โ€œMexico Metales Casadosโ€ and there also is a circle hallmark marked "sterling" surrounding three initials, that I cannot read (see close up photos). It also has the Eagle Mark with the number 3 inside (for Taxco). The eagle mark (also called a bell mark) was used between the mid-1940s through the 1970s. It weighs .25 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 7.08 grams. This brooch/pendant is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. It does show signs of wear normal for age and has a few minor scratches. I have not polished it as many people prefer the patina that only comes with age. Depending on your own taste, I will leave any polishing up to you; you can keep it in the same condition with its original patina or polish it. It has a double "c" clasp that makes me think that it may have had a rollover piece in it at one time, It is nice and secure. It has a bale at the top back that allows it to be worn as a pendant on a chain. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe. The chain in the photos is not included. This would be perfect for anyone who collects Mexican jewelry. It will be a nice addition to your collection of vintage jewelry.
