Capture a piece of photographic
history with this Kodak Brownie SIX-20 box camera, a 1940s-era icon with
bold Art Deco styling. Designed with striking Art Deco details,
this vintage beauty is a must-have for collectors and photography enthusiasts
alike.
The SIX-20 Brownie Special was
manufactured by Kodak between September 1938 and
October 1942. Designed by Walter Dorwin Teague, this camera was
part of Kodak?s effort to make photography more accessible to the public. It
was built for 620 roll film, a format Kodak introduced in 1932 to
provide a more compact alternative to earlier film types.
The Brownie Special was
notable for its trapezoidal metal body, curved back, and optical
viewfinder positioned on top. It also featured a fold-out foot,
allowing users to stand the camera upright for portrait shots. The shutter
mechanism included a locking collar, and the lens was a fixed-aperture
meniscus, offering two focus settings: 5-10 feet and 10
feet to infinity
Originally sold
for $4.00 (approx. $80-90 today), this Brownie Special has
become a sought-after item among vintage camera collectors, celebrated for
its unique craftsmanship and historical significance.
