Item description

Vintage Hand carved Adinkra Symbols Decorative Wall Frame from Ghana. This is a Ghanaian decorative artistic wall hanging for your home. It has six (6) beautifully crafted Adinkra art engraved in the center and the frame is made from sese wood. Adinkra are visual symbols, originally created by the Asante people of Ghana, that represent concepts or aphorisms. They are extensively used in fabrics and pottery and also incorporated into walls and other architectural features. Adinkra symbols do not only have a decorative function but also represent objects that express evocative messages that convey traditional wisdom, aspects of life or the environment. The names of the symbols together with their meanings are beautifully inscribed at the back of the frame. There is also a metallic loop hanger at the back of the frame for easy wall mounting. Dimensions: 25.7" H x 7" L x 0.7" W ***Customers can request for customization. Kindly send me a message with names or photos of your preferred adinkra symbols and we will make it for you. **The symbols with their meanings in order are listed below: 1. DUAFE ?Wooden comb? Symbol of beauty and cleanliness; symbol of desirable feminine qualities, patience, prudence, love and care. 2. BESE SAKA ? Sack of Cola nuts? This symbol also represents the role of agriculture and trade in bringing people together. 3. ESE NE TEKREMA ?The teeth and the tongue? Symbol of friendship and interdependence. This symbol also depicts that the teeth and the tongue play interdependent roles in the mouth. They may come into conflict, but they need to work together. 4. NKYINKYIM ? Twisting?
