Joseph Kapelyan was born in Belarus, 1936. He graduated from Art College in St. Petersburg and the Academy of the Arts in Minsk. He was a member of the USSR Union of Artists. He emigrated to Israel in 1980. Some of his prizes and awards include: The highest prize for a poster (Minsk, 1962); Prize for book design (Minsk, 1970); Prize for an art print (Moscow, 1975); Prize for book design (Minsk, 1975); Kuzkowsky Foundation Prize by the Ramat Gan Municipality (1982). He received a diploma of the Government of Croatia (1993). His works have been exhibited at 26 one-man shows and 138 group shows worldwide. He currently lives and works in Netanya Province, Israel.
