Item description

U S Stamp 4 Cent Stamps Boy Scouts of America Plate Block of 4 Stamps 1960 4 Boy Scout Jubilee Issue Date: February 8, 1960 City: Washington, D.C. Quantity: 139,325,000 Printed By: Bureau of Engraving and Printing Printing Method: Giori Press Perforations: 11 Color: Red, dark blue and dark bister U.S. #1145 stamp designer Norman Rockwell was a tremendously popular artist whose work was most commonly featured on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post and Boysโ€™ Life. It was the second stamp issued in honor of the Boy Scouts of America, and was released for the 50th anniversary of the organization in America. The stamp design pictures 14-year-old Thornton Percival in a Scout uniform, giving the three-fingered Scout Salute. Rockwell used Percival and other local boys from Stockbridge, Massachusetts, in a series of illustrations commissioned by the Boy Scouts of America. Percival became nationally recognized as the โ€œface of the Boy Scouts.โ€ However, he never became a Scout.
