Item description

U.S. MUSKET, M1855 TUMBLER AND WIRE PUNCH TOOL These were used in service from 1855 thru 1900 as a takedown punch tool for the Military muskets and later the Springfield Trapdoor series. Blued steel with some wear from long storage, 2 different size punches. These are original. This smaller round pin used to push out the band springs of the stock when needed. The larger round pin inserted into the hole of the lock tumbler left when the tumbler screw was removed. The other end was struck with a hammer. The M1855 Tumbler and Wire Punch Tool is a vintage military tool used primarily for repairing the locks of muskets and rifles. It features two different-sized punches that were used to drive out pins and adjust the internal mechanisms of the lock. These tools were used in the United States military from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century. Here are some key features of the M1855 Tumbler and Wire Punch Tool: Two punches: One larger punch was used for driving out larger pins, while the smaller punch was used for finer adjustments. Blued steel construction: The tool was made from blued steel, which helped to prevent rust and corrosion. Folding design: Some models featured a folding design, which made them easier to carry and store. Used in various military firearms: The M1855 Tumbler and Wire Punch Tool was used in a variety of military firearms, including muskets, rifles, and carbines. Today, the M1855 Tumbler and Wire Punch Tool is primarily a collector's item. It is a valuable piece of military history and is sought after by gun enthusiasts and collectors.
