Item description

The Magic Water by Barbara Webster The Magic Water Barbara Webster New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1942 Copyright 1942 'A' edition 398 pages The binding is in good condition, the pages are clean except there is a bookplate in front. The grey cover has a few small smudges. The jacket is scuffed, has some edge wear and small tears, there is a small loss at spine top. Acceptable. Hardcover. The scene of this richly dramatic and vividly characterized novel is a vast rococo country house in Eastern Pennsylvania. After the Depression, its once wealthy mistress was obliged to transform it into a unique sort of hostelry for a select group of ladies and gentlemen of comfortable means, assured social standing and highly developed temperaments. The Magic Water is a novel about people-colorful, fully-realized, flesh and blood human beings, each of whom has his or her part to play in the development of an absorbing story. There is romance here, much humor, tragedy and a great deal of capital conversation and keen dissection of the frailties of men and women. (#05)
