Item description

THE LONE WOLF FILM COLLECTION - 8 DVD-R - 15 MOVIES The Lone Wolf is the nickname of the fictional character Michael Lanyard, a jewel thief turned private detective in a series of novels written by Louis Joseph Vance (1879–1933). A large number of movies based on and inspired by the books have been made. The character also appeared briefly on radio and television. His first appearance in film was in 1917, only three years after the first novel appeared. He remained a criminal right into the talkies, but by 1939's The Lone Wolf Spy Hunt, he was a reformed gentleman thief and amateur sleuth on the side of the good guys. In The Lone Wolf Meets a Lady (1940), he acquired a valet, Jamison, whose chief job, it seemed, was to provide comic relief, and to become hopelessly entangled in the plots. In 1948, The Lone Wolf moved to radio, and began a new career, with the cultured European jewel thief now an American private eye, even if the cops still didn't trust him. The radio series also proved successful enough to eventually spawn a television series, in 1954. The TV show had a rather schizophrenic hero, with actor Louis Hayward playing the character as a retired French gentleman by day, and the shadowy, wall-crawling Lone Wolf by night. These films were originally produced long before the advent of High Definition TV, therefore they are best viewed on a small screen. HD TVs tend to stretch and skew the picture. Set your HD TV on 4:3 aspect ratio. (That was the old TV format). Please do not expect DVD or Commercial level DVDs from these films. Movies List: PLEASE BE AWARE: This collection includes 15 movies. The titles in green are good picture quality. The titles in red are just acceptable, but good enough to be enjoyed. The Lone Wolf Returns (1935, Melvyn Douglas) The Lone Wolf in Paris (1938, Francis Lederer) The Lone Wolf Spy Hunt (1939, Warren William) The Lone Wolf Strikes (1940, Warren William) The Lone Wolf Meets a Lady (1940, Warren William) The Lone Wolf Keeps a Date (1941, Warren William) The Lone Wolf Takes a Chance (1941, Warren William) Secrets of the Lone Wolf (1941, Warren William) Counter-Espionage (1942, Warren William) One Dangerous Night (1943, Warren William) Passport to Suez (1943, Warren William) The Notorious Lone Wolf (1946, Gerald Mohr) The Lone Wolf in Mexico (1947, Gerald Mohr) The Lone Wolf in London (1947, Gerald Mohr) The Lone Wolf and His Lady (1949, Ron Randell) The Lone Wolf in Paris (Spanish Subtitles) 1938 Starring: Melvyn Douglas, Francis Lederer, Warren William, Gerald Mohr, and Ron Randell THESE ARE REGULAR DVD-R DELIVERED IN A BOX SET WITH ART WORK We guarantee delivery of your item. Thousands of Hollywood motion pictures are in the Public Domain because they were released without Copyright Notices, never registered with the Library of Congress, had improper or late registrations; or were not properly renewed under the old requirements for films made before 1964. The status of films registered from 1929 through 1956 is noted in 3 volumes of Copyright Catalogs of motion picture registrations published by the Library of Congress.
