Item description

The Boy Tars of 1812 by John T. McIntyre (1907 Hardcover) Author: John T. McIntyre Illustrator: Clyde O. Deland Publisher: The Penn Publishing Company, Philadelphia, PA U.S.A. 1907 A very scarce copy of this seafaring adventure story for young people with 7 illustrations by Clyde O. Deland, including glassine tissue-protected frontis image of sea captain on ship's deck. Hardcover has full green-grey cloth-covered boards with titling in white on cover and spine; illustration and decoration in navy, white and orange on front cover and spine. White rubbed, especially to spine. No Dust Jacket. Interior of book a bit loose with torn front gutter, but no owner markings in end papers or text. A few handling stains noted in text. Near Very Good condition. Size: 12mo - over 6 - 7" tall, 319pp. Condition: Near Very Good Hardcover but no Dust Jacket. Copyright 1907. This copy printed 1907 according to title page. 1st Edition thus presumed, although not stated as such in book. No ISBN, LCCN nor MSR. Notes on Condition/Edition ratings: Fine – means like new, but any book produced over 10 years ago isn't “brand new”. Booksellers needed some word to describe this... Very Good – How you or I might take care of a book, closer to “as new” than standard. Good – How someone else might take care of a book. Also referred to as “standard.” The most likely condition for books of this age, shows the book has been read or previously owned. Acceptable – How a child, student or a librarian might take care of a book. (Either trying to make sure someone doesn't steal it by plastering ownership everywhere, filled it with copious notes or a book that has been damaged.) Poor – Combination of “acceptable” factors above. Most likely with water damage as well. Might have missing pages (you should ask). Near – Means “almost” in an optimistic sense. e.g., “Near Fine” means very good, but on the high end. 1st Thus – Unique somehow, maybe 1st paperback, new illustrator, misprint or even the 1st edition. A collector might desire this copy. Thanks for looking!
