Item description

10 seeds/purchase A large, perennial herb in the marantaceae family with large, ribbed leaves on very slender stalks produced from an undergound rhizome. The inflorescence is produced at ground level and holds purplish flowers followed by bright red fruits that are edible and incredibly sweet. They actually contain little sugar but a substance called Thaumatin that has high potential as a low calorie sweetener. Thaumatococcus danielli is native to rainforests in western and central Tropical Africa. It adapts well to cultivation.
