First edition, first printing in original black cloth with affixed gilt paper labels to the spine and front cover. This second published book by Hemingway book is one of 5200 copies of which few have survived in any kind of collectible edition. This copy presents itself handsomely with a minimal amount of shelf wear or binding wear to the black cloth. There is a small unobtrusive light spot on the bottom left of the front civet, barely noticeable until a certain side angle of light is shown in the volume. The spine label has a slight crease as shown with minor chipping to the edge S shown. There is a slight shelf slant to the volume. The binding is tight. The endpapers are solid and not cracked; the volume interior is without writing or bookplates. The Scribners seal is present on the verso of the title page. The three printing errors indicating the first printing are present in this volume as shown: "Stoppped? on page 181; ?down-stairs? on page 169; and ?BOOK THREE? instead of ?BOOK III? on page 235. It is now difficult to acquire a nicer copy in the first issue of this pivotal Hemingway book. The book is supplied with a John Anthony Miller Studio replication dust jacket enclosed in Mylar.
