GOODRICH, who has previously followed beauty contestants for The Post (See WILL THE REAL MISS RHEINGOLD STAND OUT? Nov. 16, 1963), kept a close eye on Miss Kansas, Debbie Bryant, for three solid months, but often found himself under scrutiny by the chaperones that are assigned to Miss America contestants (See photo)... .Two weeks before the deadline for his Debbie, chaperone and Goodrich. article on the New York Democrats, contributing writer RICHARD ARMSTRONG had an appendectomy, and The Post's Bard Lindeman came to his rescue to complete the interviews. Armstrong, still in bed, wrote the article in longhand. . . . Shortly after the abovementioned articles went to press the Saturday Evening Post staff was grieved to learn of the death of photographer VYTAS VALAITIS, whose work illustrates both articles. Mr. Valaitis, 34, died October 4 following a motorcycle accident in New York City, as he was preparing to cover Pope Paul VI's visit. He was a talented and highly respected photographer. * NOTE: OUR content description is GUARANTEED accurate for THIS magazine.
