Samantha at Saratoga, or Racin' After Fashion. By Josiah Allen's wife (Marietta Holley). Published 1887 by Hubbard Publishing Co., Philadelphia. Hardcover, frontispiece portrait of the author, additional interior illustrations, 325 pp., 16mo. This edition sold by subscription only. One of the many titles in this comic series, here Josiah Allen and his wife visit Saratoga and the races. Her writing career spawned a series which included the whole Samantha series - at the Philadelphia Centennial, the Chicago World's Fair, the Saratoga races, and Round the World. Condition: Book is complete and intact, with solid binding. Cover is in fair conditoin with some spotting and fabric wear at edges and corners. Interior pages are in good condition with some browning.
