Item description

SPODE Tea Cup Saucer Set Pattern 2789 c. 1819 Though listed by the Spode Museum Trust site as being c1817, further research (Robert Copeland) extended an accurate date to c1819. There are hand painted botanicals on a bone china base with extensive gold trim over a cobalt blue backdrop in an Imari pattern. Rarely found pattern and highly collectible. dimensions are in inches and are approximate: TEA CUP 3 1/2" diameter 1 3/4" foot 2 1/2" high Mark: SPODE 2789 in red condition: No cracks, repairs or hairlines. No wear to gold trim. Tiny blue dots in porcelain. SAUCER-A larger than usual saucer which with it's depth can be additionally used as a small dish or bowl. 5 3/8" diameter 3 1/4" foot 1 1/8" depth condition: Fleabite as shown on foot rim. Gold loss on inner ring. Scratch in finish of botanical at mid-center as shown. No cracks, repairs or hairlines. These matching pieces have beautifully executed botanicals in yellow and purple with a touch of coral. The trim is predominantly gold overlaid on cobalt blue Imari designs interspersed with white and coral flowers. "This particular design is unusual in that an English flower is set within an Imari border." history-of-spode.html Reduced insured shipping applied.
