The deep taproot of the Fracking Radish can help break up the tough, compacted soil, improve water infiltration, suppresses weeds, eliminate pests and stores nitrogen. Also known as Oilseed radish, or Raphanus sativus, tillage radish, Forage radish, groundhog radish, radish ripper, fracking radish, and the comic book-worthy ?turbo radish.? It can reach its two-inch-wide tuber down to 20 inches with its taproots going down as much as six feet. It is commonly put to work as a cover crop in farmers' fields and permaculture gardens. The method, called ?bio-drilling?, breaks up soil compaction and improves soil fertility. Once the radish dies in the winter and its huge roots decompose, deep channels are left behind for new crop plantings.
