ROYAL COPENHAGEN l938 Christmas Plate Osterlars Round Church in Bornholm is the subject of the 1938 Royal Copenhagen Christmas Plate. It features a view of the largest and possibly the oldest of the Bornholm's four round churches. Built around 1160, it was dedicated to St. Lawrence. The Danish equivalent, Lars, was the church's original name but around 1600, the prefix oster- (eastern) was added to avoid confusion with nearby Ny-Lars. There is evidence the church was once fortified, the top story serving as an open shooting gallery.
