Item description
Vintage Apple Valley California ROY ROGERS MUSEUM Brochure a Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Collectible from the 1960s 1970s
This Roy Rogers' Museum Brochure, has full color photos and scenes from the famous museum, when the museum was located in Southern California on Highway 18 at the center of Apple Valley, (also know as Route 66), currently named "Happy Trails Highway"
This historically significant and rare colorful brochure was printed for the original location before the museum moved to it's Victorville location.
The museum was one of the few reminders of the heroes of the old western movies, singing (real) cowboys and simpler times.
Although this full color brochure does not do justice to the displays and wonderful items inside the museum, it is a wonderful piece of history, (especially since the museum no longer exists).
This tri-fold full color brochure has a slight texture to the paper, and measures 11" x 8-1/2" unfolded
(If you look closely at the scanned photos you can see the pebble-grain-like texture)
We first visited the Roy Rogers Museum in 1977 when it was located in Apple Valley, about a mile from where Roy Rogers and Dale Evans lived. (Up until only a few years ago Nellie Bell was still parked out front of their old house)
When the museum moved to its new location in Victorville, we visited there too, and they had added many new displays and wonderful displays of costumes and memorabilia from Roy and Dale's personal collections.
Then Roy and Dale moved out of their long time home on Highway 18 and into a beautiful new home built to fit their huge family.
We were allowed to take a tour of the home before they moved in, and it was nice, not over done, just down home casual, much like Roy and Dale. The bathrooms were "very" nice though, and the kitchen was awesome. It had lots of bedrooms and lots of bathrooms.
So from what we heard, Dusty Rogers wanted to expand the Museum into an amusement Park, which would have been wonderful! But... the city of Victorville argued over water rights or some stupid thing, and Dusty was forced to move the museum to Branson Missouri, where it did not do as well, (probably because it wasn't Roy's home town), and eventually closed, not sure what happened to all the wonderful items in the collections. We heard some things were sent to an sale, although the statue of "Trigger" did make its way back home to Apple Valley, and rode through the Rose parade a couple years ago, and although most locals feel that Trigger belongs by Roys original home, or at least by the Town hall, it ended up at a privately owned cemetery at the far end of town, then finally relocated at the entrance to a small commercial strip center at the other far end of town.
CONDITION: Near Mint. We only say "near" because there is a small ding in one of the folds (see photos). Overall it is in very good condition. No tears, wrinkles, creases, markings or damage. Does show very slight signs of wear along the one fold at the bottom edge on the fold. Has been stored in, and will be shipped in an archive quality clear magazine sleeve.
