Item description
Welcome and thanks for visiting!
I am offering the Ancient Phoenicia, Sidon. 1/8 Shekel. War Galley c. 410-400 BC AR silver coin.
OBVERSE: Galley to left over waves.
REVERSE: King of Persia slaying lion standing before him, O between them.
In 351 BC Sidon revolted against Artaxerxes. After a siege went badly for Sidon, King Tennes fled the city with most of the able-bodied warriors. The inhabitants, 40,000 people of all ages, sealed themselves in the city, set fire to the buildings, and perished in the flames. Sidon never completely recovered. BMC attributes this coin to the Cypriote Euagoras II, who may have controlled Sidon after the destruction.
Measurement: Maximum 9 mm in diameter.
Weight: 0.5 grams.
Condition: Very Fine, see photos.
As a coin collector I DO NOT clean any of my coins to preserve the original patina, if you wish to clean the coin/s I will leave it up to you.
The coin you see in the photo is the coin you get.
Fantastic for your jewelry, craft projects, or just a great addition to your Ancient coins collection.
Added to your wish list!
