COVER
The 7-shot revolving cylinder percussion rifle on the cover, in the Smithsonian Institution collection, was patented Apr. 24, 1838 (U. S. Patent No. 707) by Rufus Nichols and Edward Childs of Conway, Mass. The mechanism to revolve the cylinder is on the outside of the frame and is actuated by cocking the hammer. Nichols Childs also made revolvers based upon the same patent. The transparency was made with 3200K. Anscochrome film exposed at Ell for 1/5 second. Transparency by
