ROYAL COPENHAGEN 1948 Christmas Plate The Church at Nøddebo (or Nødebo) is the subject of the Royal Copenhagen 1948 Christmas plate, the 41st plate in the series that began in 1908 and continues to this day. It depicts the church at Nødebo, a village located on the shore of Lake Esrum, about 40 km (about 25 miles) north of Copenhagen. The oldest parts of Nødebo Church, including the nave and choir, date back to the 13th century. It is notable for its church frescos and its early 16th century altarpiece. Nødebo Church as it looks today The scene is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in traditional Copenhagen blue under the glaze, approximate diameter 7.25 inches. The inscription includes the date 1948 and the word JUL -- the Danish word for CHRISTMAS, pronounced like the English word YULE.
