Offered for your consideration here we have what is known as a Gohonzon Buddhist scroll used in worship in various Nichiren Buddhist Sects. All the Nichiren sects of this Buddhism venerate the founder 13th century priest known as Nichiren Daishonin(Nichiren Shonin in some sects). They focus their prayers towards the scroll and chant the words Nam Myoho Renge Kyo (some sects say Namu followed by Myoho Renge Kyo). Approx size: 10.75 X 18.50 inches. The scroll here is the version used by the SGI (Soka Gakkai International) that has the Nichikan inscription. It is known as Tokubetsu Okatagi and is the version scroll given out to the lay membership of the SGI. Nichikan Shonin was the 26th High Priest of Nichiren Shoshu (the Fuji School Branch of Nichiren Buddhism) and was the priest who allegedly restored the schools original teachings as was founded by Nichiren. The scroll is in Top "PRESTINE" Excellent Condition with no wrinkles or tears or wrinkles. This Gohonzon known as Tokubetsu Okatagi was given out to long time practicing SGI members with at least 15 or more years of practice. It is a much more quality scroll than the regular Okatagi scroll given out to the majority of the SGI membership. The scroll is larger and is made with material embedded with gold threads throughout. **THIS IS AN UNALTERED SCROLL. IT HAS NOT HAD THE BROCADE OR ANY MATERIAL CHANGED. IT IS AN ORIGINAL SCROLL ISSUED BY THE SGI.** These Tokubetsu Okatagi Gohonzon are no longer being issued by the SGI making these mandala quite scarce and rare.
