The illustrations show many of the principal cities of North America as well as the most famous scenic vistas of the day.. There are also plates of the Hudson Valley, Faneuil Hall, New York (The Ferry at Brooklyn), Washington DC (View of the Capitol), and the Catskill Mountains. Originally published in 30 parts without text, and published in 1840 in book form.
Contemporary embossed green boards with gilt vignette of an Indian with a bow. 11" x 9". 140 + 106 pages with 118 (of 120) plates and a map.

He visited Canada and the United States repeatedly and the illustrations show many of the principal cities of North America as well as the most famous scenic vistas of the day, views of the Hudson River Valley, such as View From West Point, Crow's Nest from Bull Hill, View From Ruggle's House, Newburgh, Peekskill Landing, and Indian Falls near Cold Spring. There are also plates of Boston (Faneuil Hall), New York (The Ferry at Brooklyn), Washington DC (View of the Capitol), and the Catskill Mountains. Originally published in 30 parts without text, and first published in 1840 in book form.
