Item description

PIETER SOHL (German; 1933-2018) "Frigate Ship" Original Signed Gouache on Heavy Paper Under Glass Original Hand Carved Frame 28 in. x 22 in. Excellent Vintage Condition Canvas is tight. Colors are Bold and Vivid. The Artist: PIETER SOHL (1933-2018) Pieter Sohl is the son of the painter Will Sohl (1906 ?1969). Like his father, he trained at the Dรผsseldorf Art Academy, where he studied sculpture and nude drawing, supplemented by training as a stage designer. During this time, he also became a pupil of the internationally renowned sculptor Christos Kapralos at the Art Academy of Athens. In the following years, he led the life of a globetrotter: from Paris his path took him to Africa on the trail of the ivory and mask carvers; he worked on Crete, taught as an art teacher in the U.S. and designed for Denmark?s leading silversmiths. In 1968 he settled once again as a freelance painter and sculptor in Germany, but regularly took off on long educational journeys. Sohl?s artistic experience of the world was therefore as broad as his artistic range as a painter and sculptor. Sohl worked in stone, wood, concrete and bronze, and looked back on a life?s work which has been highly appreciated in numerous exhibitions. Pieter Sohl has since become one of Germany?s most renowned artists, honored in a 2013 book featuring his art works and in a 2015 biography. He spent his days creating art, in around his beautiful home in the ?Kohlhof? art community near Heidelberg. Email or Text any Questions.....thank you.
