Pair Of l9th Century Children Drawings Prints In Wooden Frames---These framed prints are striking for many reasons including subject matter, character detail and framing. Based on framing it is natural to assume they are brother and sister. The frames are simple and wooden and yet their cut is artistic and deliberate. The children are drawn (maybe originally painted) in simplistic colors with natural detail. Based on clothing styles the subjects could be either European or American colonial. I tried to look at the art but the complex nature of the framing and matting was so precise that the danger exceeded the need to know. There is no outside indications they were numbered or signed. The boy is dressed in sailor attired and his toys seem to be wearing naval hats. and the little girl is in colonial period clothes while collecting Pussy Willow stems. Not matter what, their faces are those of innocent children. Pay special note to the hand constructed frames. The cuts and stair-stepping of the wood indicate some modern equipment may have been used. It is an intricate combination or the new and old, the past and present.
