Item description

An Original painting by Robert M. Hinkelman Titled: Autumn Fire on the Dunes Painting is framed. Measures 28" by 22" inches and is in excellent pristine condition. About the Artist Robert's Paintings are "like looking out a window" From the forests to the deserts to oceans and in between Robert Hinkelman - Biography My creative journey through landscapes, seascapes and wildlife paintings began in the spring of 1979-yes, that long ago- in a suburb of Buffalo, NY, in the midst of a career broadening assignment. Winters are very long between Lakes Erie and Ontario. Cabin fever arrives early and Spring arrives late in the northwest of New York State. One particularly gray day, I went to a local art store and bought an acrylics starter set, brushes, canvases, an easel and some Walter Foster "How to paint..." books. With an overheard light hook up in the basement. A studio. A beginning. After a number of re locations, we spent the first 24 years of this century in southeast Florida. Last year- 2024- we moved to a lakeside in western South Carolina. For many artists, where you live drives what you paint. That works for me. In the southeast, there are marshes, shorelines, big waves at high tide, deep streams cutting through forests, deer, birds of prey. In the winter months, with the sun in the southern hemisphere, the sunrises and sunsets are spectacular . These make up a deep reservoir of paintings in waiting. And, there have been outliers through the years. My wife and I painted a triptych of the harbor at Mykonos, Greece- three 30" X 40" canvases for friends of ours of Greek decent. For one Christmas season, we painted butterflies by state on small canvases. Friends and families got a butterfly native to their state of residence. Our Stuart, FL, community was into charitable art auctions for several years and I contributed regularly. I as also part of a co-op gallery in town for three years. My paintings are blends. Realism, some impressionism, some camouflage art. I enjoy variety from the Arizona mountains to a forest on Martha's Vineyard to a storm on Cape Cod Bay to the North Carolina low country to a young eagle snaring a fish in the South Carolina low country to a fast running stream in Carbridge, Scotland. I was Artist of the Month at the Arts Arena Gallery in Delray Beach, the Ledbetter Gallery in Oakland Park (Ft. Lauderdale), the AE "Billy" Backus Gallery in Ft. Pierce- home of the famous Florida Highwaymen- the Marsh Rabbit Gallery in Jensen Beach and others. Many times a painting calls for subdued, quiet tones of color and soft shapes. And, I comply. But, I am a restless colorist, much happier when when the colors emerge from the canvas. An observer of my work once said, "it's like looking out a window. " I'm good with that.
